Passenger Pulled Greyhound Bus Over After Driver Passed Out

A Greyhound bus pulls out of a driveway of a diner in rural Washington state

A passenger on board a Greyhound bus is being hailed as a hero after pulling the bus over to the side of the highway when the driver passed out. The bus was traveling down Interstate 15 near Salt Lake City, Utah when the driver suffered a medical problem and lost consciousness.

Luckily, an attentive passenger noticed something was wrong and jumped up to take the wheel. The passenger, who has not been identified, managed to pull the bus over onto the left shoulder, scraping the concrete center barrier, and stopping right behind a state trooper.

After the bus stopped, some of the passengers evacuated and ran into the highway.

"There was panic at the beginning," Utah State Trooper Colton Freckleton said.

There were 20 people on the bus and none of them were injured. The driver was taken to the hospital, but authorities have not revealed what caused him to pass out.

"We're lucky to have a passenger that was able to step up and take care of the driver and pull the bus to the side and get help," Freckleton said.
