A type mosquito that is typically found in Asia and that can carry Zika virus has been found in Utah, reported St. George News. The local mosquito control agency informed the Springdale Town Council of the presence of the mosquito.

Southwest Mosquito Abatement and Control District manager Sean Amodt said that the mosquito is known as the Aedes Aegypti.

Amodt said, "This is the mosquito we don't want."

According to Amodt, the potential Zika-carrying mosquitos were also trapped in St. George last year, but they were quickly eradicated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that if a pregnant woman is bitten by a Zika-carrying mosquito, it can spread the virus to the fetus. This could cause many major birth defects.

According to Amodt, Springdale has "quite the population" of the mosquitos. Amodt says that these mosquitos are "container" mosquitos. Amodt said:

"Mostly they're container mosquitos, so if you have any containers on your property, it just takes a little water. Recent storms attracted mosquitos to those spots."

According to Amodt, it's vital to make sure there isn't any stagnant water on your property. You also shouldn't count on winter to eradicate the problem. Amodt said:

"The cold winter will probably take care of some of them, but these particular mosquitos plant eggs by water sources that can hatch later,"
