"I am about to tell you an epic tale about subterfuge, dating in the 21st century and the fall of human civilization. This actually happened to me and it could happen to you too. Get some popcorn."
So begins the craziest Twitter thread you will read, maybe, ever. A man named Misha detailed a wild Tinder scam he and dozens of other guys in the New York City area fell prey to that was conducted by Instagram model Natasha Aponte.
I am about to tell you an epic tale about subterfuge, dating in the 21st century and the fall of human civilization. This actually happened to me and it could happen to you too. Get some popcorn. *Thread*— миша (@bvdhai) August 19, 2018
Misha spoke with Select All about the scam, revealing he matched with Aponte on Tinder a few weeks ago. Eventually they moved their conversation from the app to a text message, as is par for the online dating course. After texting for a while, Aponte reportedly told Misha that she was super busy with work and that she'd be in touch in a few weeks when she had some free time.
According to Select All, Misha believed he was being ghosted. He was surprised when Aponte got in touch with him again, asking to meet up in Union Square Park to see her friend DJ. Misha agreed. The only thing, though, was that Aponte did the exact same thing to a number of other men she connected with on Tinder.
Things started to get weird when Misha arrived at Union Square. "There is a stage and a DJ and about 100 ppl and cameras and s**t and I think well this is some random a** Manhattan shit."
I make my way to Union Square. Eat a hot dog and look over by this open lot by 17th Ave and there is a stage and a DJ and about 100 ppl and cameras and shit and I think well this is some random ass Manhattan shit.— миша (@bvdhai) August 19, 2018
"Eventually I see a girl moving towards backstage with two enormous bodygaurds in sunglasses and realize it's her and I'm thinking WHAT THINE F***ETH IS GOING ON."
Aponte eventually gets on stage and begins to address the crowd. According to Misha, Aponte said "I've invited you all here for a chance to go on a date with me" and then "proceeds to give a hunger games speech about what its gonna take to date her."

Misha tweeted, "At that point I am genuinely amazed at the fallopian fortitude this girl possesses. This is top 10 greatest finesse of all time. Dudes actually stayed and played."
Aponte then proceeded to whittle the crowd down to serious contenders only by asking a series of questions, including "If you think you can support Trump and date a Puerto Rican now’s the time to leave," and "if you're named Jimmy, you can leave." Aponte also eliminated men who were dumped by their previous girlfriends because she "trusts the girlfriend's judgement."
Select All reports that she dismissed "anybody looking for just a hookup, along with anybody with a beer belly, a long beard, khakis, Toms shoes, or who is a smoker or an alcoholic."

When just a few of the Tinder men were left, Aponte had them compete in a series of events such as a push up and sprinting contests. She also gave each guy a minute to pitch themselves to her, according to another victim of the con named Spencer.
Whether any of these men ultimately went on a date with Aponte is unknown. Since Misha's Twitter thread went viral, she's made her Instagram account private.
What do you think of this scam? Would you have stayed and competed after being catfished in this way?
